Geeks, nerds, gothic
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 || 8:54 PM

How interesting could it be when you could meet all sorts of people in one place. Uh, I mean Sunway area. In some xxx place in Sunway Pyramid, I saw one lady put on a gothic make up which freaked me out for a couple of seconds. You couldn't imagine how unique it could be, till u see it with your own eyes.

As for my lecture hall, yeap, all sorts of people, from nice people to nerds and geeks, from super talkative which we name that person as lipid oxidation and 97 (there are stories behind all these). How interesting could things be?

Your friends may be coming from other state or country and you would seriously be facinated when they tell their stories.

Or when you and your group are so called 'stalking' some leng zais in your own lecture hall, trying to make eye contact with him. Hahahaha.

Or discussing which lab you enjoy the most. and hopefully you won't bump into your 'favourite' lecturer when you stepped into the office and the next moment you see him.

How hectic is year 1 man. But holidays are coming.=))

Labs
Monday, March 29, 2010 || 9:43 PM

Labs can be fun, it can be annoying, it could be tedious, but nothing beats the feel of achieving a clear picture of your own slide.

I remember how 'we' fished for the paramecium in the water sample for bio last week and its tedious.

I can never imagine my life facing microscope 6-7 hours a day. I hope I don't need too. Its headache to face the whole thing for 2 hours.

Microscopical image of potato starch, raw. Its pretty isn't it?

Coming into the 5th week of uni, I start to get used to it. Lab reports are like a norm now.=)

This is my life
Saturday, March 27, 2010 || 10:34 PM

Now.

My typical weekday.
Wake up. Monash. home. dinner. a bit of TV. assignments+reports+revision. sleep. The cycle repeats. everyday. How lifeless right? What to do, Monash ma.

I don't have enough money to spend everyday, or I should say things here are expensive. Cheapest thing I can find here is Nasi Lemak= 1.80, Roti canai=1.00, Nasi goreng=1.50

And sometimes some simple plain rice with one boiled egg, vege and ikan bilis can cost you 4.50. WTH? People go into Monash doesn't mean he/she is rich, unless like you're given allowance of 100 bucks a week. I guess on some not so loaded day I would be down with sandwiches. Not a bad way to go on diet.

If you watched some advertisement on Oreo Soft cake recently, it looks not bad, at least it wouldn't be that bad since Oreo cookies was good. But too bad, I was wrong, its just normal. it was a dissapointment in fact. And I don't know why I just grabbed all oreo stuffs in Giant today. oreo softcake, oreo twin pack cookies and oreo waffle stick. yum yum.=)

I think food science is getting interesting but not bio. =(

Back to my books. I am done with the FST and quiz. I need to start drafting my bio essay.=(

Reports
Wednesday, March 24, 2010 || 10:16 PM

Reports and reports and assignments are waiting for me, it will never finish for I don't know what reason.

I am sort of adapted to Monash life now. Reports are like homework. Assignments are like my good friends.

Sort of found a group of friends over there, in fact I would say quite a number of them. And interesting thing is we sort of found some random people in our lecture hall that gave us some Lee Hom feel. Sounds a bit over but trust me, you can instantly get that kind of aura when you saw that person.

Lol. Well, I wouldn't say Monash is for rich dudes or stuffs like that la, but seriously, its something really different than I used to encounter. Plagiarism sounds something important as we have to attach a plagiarism declaration page every time we send a report.

Good looking dudes? Probbaly quite a number. and I find Food Science so engineering-ish for I dunno what reason.

and I need sleep desprately. and there's chem assesment tomorrow.=(

I need SLEEP
Saturday, March 20, 2010 || 11:40 PM

At least thats the only thing I can ask for now. Seriously. My life had been revolving around study, assignment, lab reports. And did I mention, I don't even have enough time to study. Lab reports are lengthy and it must be typed. And imagine those allignment ment wrong when you have completed a 12 page Food Science report? Disastrous.

List of things waiting for me:
SCI assignment
Bio report
SCI project
Bio quizzes

We pay the extra fees for the sake of making us into a NERDS.

Seriously, I barely have 6 hours of sleep everyday. Except weekends where I got slightly more generous amount of sleep which is around 7-8.

Merging into a new life
Sunday, March 14, 2010 || 9:22 PM

Now, I feel like as if I am surviving week by week, once its Friday, I would be really delighted that its finally weekend, but Monday's coming.

Lab sessions are pretty stressful, thats why I never liked lab too much. Back in inti where everything is pure fun and all by our own, in here, its freaking restricted. I know, its uni life and yeah, lab safety.

Recap of the week:

Baked carrot cupcakes with CC in my house. It was fun, and the cupcakes turned out really good.

Tadah!

Went to pyramid with Xin Ling. Its more like a way to destress ourselves.

Uni life is pretty fun now I think, nevertheless, its hectic. I am starting to get used to it la. Just I wished I had a car. *Hopefully soon

Oh yea, I start to get paranoid to drive when its heavy rain. Okay la, I rarely drive when its heavy rain, and today rained quite heavily in the afternoon and I wanted to drive to pasar malam but ended up going home as its really really heavy till I couldn't see a single thing.

Here comes Monday.=(

of microbes and bacteria
Friday, March 12, 2010 || 11:47 PM

When I thought I am currently recovering from my flu+cough(I am eating some medication) and I think I'm perfectly well till during the FST class there's some random guy who sneezes right behind me and there again, I'm having flu!. I dunno whether this thing has a relation or not but it sure sound yes now.

Uni life had been really interesting. I sort of get used to the 8-5 schedule. I think besides sleep, I spend another part of my time in Monash.

Lotsa things to do, lab reports. Its chaotic, at least to me, I broke one pipette. Sounds great and I dunno how much should I even pay for it. But well, I think I found a niche in Monash. I guess.

Had been spending quite wisely. But a few dollars at a time, I still end up broke ok?

Lotsa lectures to catch up, especially bio. Now I seriously love chem more than ever.

*My nose feels like its going to drop off anytime soon if I continue rubbing it.

Twist, Lick and Dunk!
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 || 6:45 PM

Remember the twist, lick and dunk oreo advertisement? Yeah. Who don't love oreos? At least I do.

Picture from http://www.kitchenist.com/
You can do lots of stuff with it, just with a lil imagination. Probably thats the reason why did I took up Food Science.
Have you ever tried Oreo cookies vanilla ice cream? I know its similar to the cookies and cream ice-cream, but in a much better version. Maybe you can try it by yourself.
Ingredients.
1 litre of vanilla ice-cream(any flavours will do actually)
I packet of oreos
Method.
1. Remove the oreo fillings and put around 15-20 pcs of plain oreos into a clean plastic bag.
2. Use a wooden roller, crush the oreos into bits. Well, You can make it a lil chunkier, up to your preference.
3. Mix it into the vanilla ice-cream, mix till even(Make sure the vanilla ice cream is slightly melted, its easier to mix)
4. Even it out and decorate the top with a few pcs of oreos if you like.
5. Freeze it for around 5 hours.
Voila!. Its done. Seriously, it taste good.

Food
Sunday, March 7, 2010 || 3:36 PM

Tell me, who hate food? Or eating would be a torture for them? I am quite sure almost everyone have their own favourite food, or cuisine or whatever you call it la. That's part of what I am studying right now. Food and culture.

Not going to talk bout that but I just hate the fact that I don't do wise decisions when it comes to food. For instance? I hate spending lots of money for commercialised restaurants that people go for the sake of the name and not the food quality. But oh well, why not we just have a try then?

Went to Sushi King at Jusco Seremban 2 as we don't feel like getting fast food or things like that.

We were wrong, we should have went to Secret Recipe lunch set instead.

Seriously, the food is not up to my expectation, regardless how famous it is. I would rather spend that amount of money in Sushi Zan Mai instead.

We ordered a bento tempura set. The tempuras were so dry and it irritates my throat. The fish smells really bad. I mean those horrible fishy smell eventhough its deep fried. The tamago sushi is so loose and its cold. Cold and stale. The rice is dry and the service is slow?

How I wish there's a sushi Zanmai in Seremban, I'm glad I don't stay there permanently.

The pricing is almost the same, sometimes cheaper in Zan Mai but the quality is far more better compared to Sushi King.

I'm sort of picky when it comes to Japanese food. Although Shogun is famous for its quantity and not the quality. But ITS STILL MUCH better than Sushi King.

When you mention food. I miss SS15 area. I guess I'm gonna pre-pack my own lunch soon enough if I don't find any nice food around Monash that is reasonable. =(

Typical uni life
Friday, March 5, 2010 || 12:14 AM

Unfinished assignments, due dates, mid term, presentations and etc etc etc.

Sounds familiar? Yes. Espescially when you're still new and it had been a long time since you ever wrote an essay. The last time I wrote an essay was my SPM english essay and now I have to write a 1300 words on cystic fibrosis. The reason I chose this topic was because we learned all that back in A levels.

Mentioning about chemistry, I kind of regretted for not taking physics back then. Now I'm learning quantum physics and I think its pretty interesting. You'll never know, I might take up another degree in that after I graduate. Hahaha

Bio was fun. Saying hello to my glycosidic bonds and peptide bonds, enzymes and photosynthesis, NADPH and NADH. I guess we were lucky to have a good bio lecturer back in A levels. Imagine a 2 hour bio lecture every week? and the rest sendiri 'zhap sang'. if I didn't take bio initially, it would certainly kill my brain cells.

Practicing time management rite now. Its tough. and I got around 30 pages of information about cystic fibrosis to be digested tomorrow then I shall start drafting my essay.=)

"Enjoy your uni life while you can, you'll definately miss it when you graduate"

Ideas, assignments, lectures=dull me
Tuesday, March 2, 2010 || 4:23 PM

Coming to thr second day of university I think i got poor time management. I've lecture notes to be printed(printer at home spoilt). Unit guidelines to be printed for each units. Err, did I mention the books are hell expensive? Anyone from Monash selling their books? I need a textbook for CHM1011 and SCI1020.

I do realise, there's a vast difference between uni life and college life and YES, Uni life is meant to stay outside and be independent, UNLESS, you stay very near to your uni.

Pro and cons of entering Monash.

Pros:
-Well recognised degree. Monash wor.
-People that you're going to meet are completely different.
-You become more independent.
-No more lengthy lecture notes to be copied(In fact, I miss the times of copying notes during bio in A levels)
-Good facilities.(Bookstores, basketball court, gym, vending machine and etc)
-Huge. (I almost got lost, okay, I actually did when I want to find for the ITS centre)
-High tech books borrowing service. (Its all self service). hard to explain how.

Cons:
-The library is always overpopulated.(Since they open at 8 am in the morning)
-The cafeteria is ALWAYS overcrowded. (Although they are really really huge)
-There's no other place to eat except cafeteria(I miss the times where we can always go to AC for 'yao cha kwai' during breaks, snowflakes, bread at Baker's Cottage and Java Chip from Starbucks and their muffins).
-Not enough computers. I guess that's the reason people bring laptops.
-No dicussion tables.(Like how we used to do)

Ahh, I need to get used to it.

Lotsa things to be prepared. Toodles.
